My name is Mohamed Rattansi (55 years old), resident of Dar es salaam, Tanzania. Approximately 3 years ago I went in for a routine check-up and scans like normal, except this time the scans picked up some cysts on my liver. The size of these cysts were small enough for the local doctors to not do anything but monitor them. Over the next year the size and number of cysts increased drastically and they had spread to my lungs as well. As the pressure from these cysts increased and started causing discomfort, I was forced to go see our family doctor who suggested I immediately depart for Ahmedabad, India for further treatment.

Upon my arrival to Ahmedabad, India I went to see Dr. Jhalla who suggested I consult Dr. Hitesh Chavda and his team. With the glowing recommendation from his peers, my decision to see Dr. Chavda became very easy.

Upon arriving at the hospital, we are greeted by Dr. Chavda and his team who after hearing the history ordered a battery of tests to confirm their diagnosis. The results confirmed that most of my liver and a portion of my lungs were covered in hydatid cysts. With a confirmed diagnoses and a clearer picture of the issue, Dr. Chavda recommended I have surgery to remove the cysts without further delay, in order to decrease the chance of the cysts rupturing and causing further complications.

Dr. Chavda and his team walked us through the surgery and answered all our questions, in addition to going over the risks and putting us at ease. Following the meeting and understanding the risks we decided that it was in my best interest to go through with the surgery. We scheduled the surgery and at the earliest opening and had my sons fly in from the United States. Upon their arrival Dr. Chavda and his team made some time to meet with my sons and go over the procedure with them as well. This helped put my sons at ease and they agreed with the decision that we had arrived at.

The entire procedure lasted approximately 6 hours, where the time was shared between Dr. Chavada’s team and Dr.Sukumar Mehta who operated on the liver and lungs respectively to remove all the cysts. Both teams performed brilliantly and executed the procedure like the professionals they are. Following the procedure, I was supposed to be in the ICU for 2 days but I was able to get out of the ICU within a day and the rest of the recovery was much faster than initially anticipated. Thanks to the amazing work done by Dr. Chavda and his team, I was able to return back home in 2 months with a clean bill of health. I still keep in touch with Dr. Chavda because he is not only a good doctor but he is also a genuine person.
